The Balestier Heritage Trail has 13 markers and will soon get one more. The Senior Police Officers’ Mess, built within an enclave of spacious black and white bungalows, was where senior officials hobnobbed from the 1950s to 1970s. The building will be the eight-year-old Balestier trail’s latest addition. A marker will be unveiled outside its Mount Pleasant Road premises early next month. The police mess near Balestier was constructed in 1931, between the two World Wars, by the then British government’s Public Works Department. Curated by NHB, the officers’ mess will join other historical landmarks on the trail, such as The Church of St Alphonsus (Novena Church), the Goh Chor Tua Pek Kong Temple and the Art Deco Shophouses....
