Recently, there has been news that the government is requesting for tender bids for a revamped ERP system based on technologies empowered by the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The new system shall replace the existing gantry-based system where peak hour traffic surcharges are charged via in-vehicle units (IVUs) fitted in each registered motor vehicle, when passing through a gantry point. The new GNSS system is expected to roll out sometime in 2020, and is expected to adopt a distance-based toll system.
