The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) has said that the AFF Suzuki Cup will be held at the National Stadium, as well as at the Jalan Besar Stadium. The National Stadium, which has a capacity of 55,000, will hold Singapore’s matches against Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar. The rest of the group’s matches will be held at Jalan Besar, which can hold 8,000 people. Mr Oon Jin Teik, COO of Sports Hub Pte Ltd said they are pleased with the decision and remained committed to “optimise pitch recovery” before Singapore’s first match against Thailand on Nov 23. The poor state of the National Stadium pitch has drawn plenty of flak recently, with Brazil coach Dunga saying, ahead of his team’s friendly against Japan earlier this month, that it has more sand than grass. To preserve the pitch for the AFF Suzuki Cup, SHPL was forced to take drastic measures, including cancelling an intl rugby match between the Maori All Blacks and the Asia Pacific Dragons....
