I agree with the view that footpaths should not be allowed for bicycles and kick scooters, contrary to the Active Mobility Advisory Panel’s recommendation (“Footpaths not for bicycles, scooters”; Mar 31). While the panel suggested a code of conduct for the proposed shared footpaths, it is easy to talk about being gracious on paper. Should the authorities accept this recommendation for footpaths to be shared with cyclists and users of personal mobility devices, there needs to be clarity on how errant and inconsiderate individuals can be policed. I would suggest that all bicycles or personal mobility devices carry a licence plate for identification. In the event that a cyclist hits a pedestrian and flees instead of stopping to help pedestrians would not be able to catch up. With licence plates for identification, it will be easier to lodge a police report in such instances.... Continue Reading
