A study aimed at convincing the authorities to let bigger dogs be rehomed in HDB flats has hit a glitch when more than half of Singaporeans and PRs polled indicated they are unwilling to share common space with larger dogs. This was the key finding of a new, first-of-its-kind study commissioned by animal welfare group SOSD to learn about prevailing attitudes towards pet dogs here. The survey by research firm Nielsen found that 51 per cent of some 1,500 respondents aged between 15 and 69 were not comfortable with sharing common space with dogs larger than 50cm in height. Almost half of the respondents perceived bigger dogs to be more aggressive. Another issue highlighted by the survey, conducted between Oct 31 and Nov 13 last year, was the disturbance dog owners cause to their neighbours. More than half of the respondents thought that excessive barking was an issue in their neighbourhood. The figure was even higher for owners who do not clean up after their dog.
