The labour movement has turned down the offer to manage one of SICC’s 18-hole golf courses when its lease expires in Dec 2021 citing “financial considerations”. Instead, Keppel Club has been offered the opportunity to manage the public golf course at SICC’s Bukit location, said MinLaw and MCCY on Wed. The ministries said that they were informed of the decision after a review by NTU. In 2014, the Government announced that one of SICC’s courses at the Bukit location would be converted into a public course and managed by the labour movement following the end of SICC’s lease. The move was part of a review of golf club land leases by MinLaw which aimed to free up land to meet Singapore’s infrastructure and housing needs. However, media reports emerged earlier this year suggesting that the labour movement was facing difficulties in taking over the golf course at Bukit. Keppel Club, whose lease for its existing Bukit Chermin site will also expire in Dec 2021, has been offered the chance to operate the public golf course at Bukit from 2022 to 2030.... Continue Reading
